Autumn Lights

End of October. A Saturday morning and a cloudy day.

Shoot at Eastham Country Park on the Wirral, the other side of the Mersey. The weather was not promising anything good that morning… infact as we drove to the park it started to rain cats and dogs but I didn’t lose my hopes.

During the journey I saw in the sky among the dark clouds some blue and some bright light… little by little the storm was passing over and the sun starting to shine. Infact when we arrived at the location, after ten minutes that we parked the car… the clouds were disappearing and the sun was lighting the wet yellow leaves in the wood.

We worked mostly inside the forest with one speedlight, a reflector and an umbrella and at the sunset we moved on the banks of the Mersey.

It was a beautiful autumn day with warm lights and when we were going back home… it just started to rain again.

Icelandic beauty

I have been to Iceland this summer…

This country is amazing… is just endless wild nature. There is a particular light there… I had to bring my camera with me all the time.

I worked with a fantastic model, Iris. We drove to Arnastapi, a small fishermen village north of Reykjavik. I was speechless during all the trip. I just wanted to stop the car every five minutes to take pictures.

We went near the coast, there were some amazing rocks and I asked Iris to climb them barefoot. She was brave enough to put her feet on some very sharp stones.

We moved to another location. The road was a desert, just few cars passing sometimes. I saw this beautiful mountain on the horizon and we just stopped the car in the middle of the road. I asked Iris to change clothes in the car… and when she was ready that road became a catwalk for her.

The shoot lasted six hours. It was half past midnight, Iris was freezing. But that was the moment I was expecting. The light in Iceland in the night. A dark cloudy blue sky…and my flash off-camera… and this was one of the last pictures I took…It was really cooold!

Oh no you squidn’T!!!!

An octopus. Why not.

I have done this shoot in Chester. Samantha is a great make-up artist and model. She is an artist. She came at the shoot with some drawings she made…and she did an amazing make-up. I tried my best to realise her dream to be a mermaid…

I know these photos could appear gross for somebody and just magic for others… but after all… as somebody said ‘the beauty is in the eye of the beholder’!

The Secret of Photography

Here I am.

Finally… I have my blog.

I think I needed after so long time doing photography. After showing my work in internet for long time, after receiving many comments… some positive some as well negative but very constructive. It’s time for me to speak about my photography.

This is a new adventure for me and I am really excited.

I have been doing photography for so many years. Started with an old film SLR of my brother. It was all automatic. Shutter, aperture, focus. It was my little toy. I remember the magic when I set my first dark room and spending hours and hours developing and printing photos. In the dark, with a small red light.

And the lights… and the shadows… coming out slowly from the chemicals.

For years I have done B&W photos of silent places. Places with no apparent ‘life’. Abandoned ruins, empty spaces, old factories, architecture and buildings… you can see some of this work in ‘Myspace’ profile. I tried to discover their ’secrets’. Their ‘untold’ stories…

This is what I have done for many years. Then one day I decided to put my old camera in a drawer and buy a new digital one. This was a new beginning. From that moment I found more interest in people photography. Working with people and with colours. Then the subjects of my photography changed completely after so many years…

But still now I feel… that what is not changed  for me and for my photography… is the fascination for the ’secrets’…

A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you the less you know.’ – Diane Arbus

I would like to start this blog with a photo that I like a lot… This was created with a model ‘Lullaby Blue’, a beautiful and special girl with lot of stories to tell… I have worked with her many times… this was done in a bath of milk (yes real milk… litres and litres of milk) and there was this deep blue light coming from the glass of the window… that moment for me it was ‘the’ moment… the moment of a secret… this is called ‘Blue Silence’.
